Screening and Individualized Diversion Plan

T he current Criminal Justice Industrial Complex Based presents some systemic and clinical challenges when it comes to screening and assessing a persons with co-occurring disorders involved in the current criminal justice system. With the development of the Adult Civil Citation model, the most current state-of-the art screening and assessment practices and instruments are now able to help guide administrators, providers, case managers, and other staff in developing and operating effective programs for these individuals.

GAIN-Quick

The Quick version of the GAIN requires 20–30 minutes to administer, and includes 10 sections related to a wide range of psychosocial issues related to behavioral health. These sections address substance abuse, psychological factors, physical health, stress, behavioral problems, and service utilization.

MINI

The MINI is a 120-question structured diagnostic interview used to evaluate DSM and ICD Axis I psychiatric disorders. The instrument was designed as a brief diagnostic screening and has been used in numerous research and clinical settings. The MINI covers a broad range of symptoms and disorders, and requires approximately 20 minutes to administer to individuals who do not have a major psychiatric disorder.

UNCOPE

The UNCOPE, a ten-item screen developed on clinical and corrections populations, possesses suitable sensitivity and specificity to make it acceptable for routine screening applications. Research studies have confirmed the UNCOPE’s ability to detect the vast majority of individuals with a substance use disorder without an excessive number of false positive indications.
